Brilliant Minds Attend Lake Mary Montessori

Lake Mary Montessori Academy was voted "Cool School of the Week" in a recent Fox News 35 online poll. A significant percentage of viewers chose LMMA.NET to be featured on the Fox News program. The segment aired on October 28, 2009.
On-air reporter Christine van Blokland , who attended a Montessori school, called the LMMA student body "a wonderful group of 102 overacheivers."
The students may indeed by overacheivers, as a 2006 study published in the journal "Science" reported that Montessori students may have both educational and social advantages over children who attend traditional schools. Some successful people who attended a Montessori school include Julia Child, Sean "P.Diddy" Combs, Anne Frank, Helen Hunt, and Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
Montessori schools take a very different approach to teaching than traditional schools, according to Head of School Sheila Linville: "Montessori focuses on the whole child; you're creating independence and a joyful learner," she said.
Scott Linville, Head of School, said, "The philosophy is the whole child. We really look at the child and the love of learning that they have in the classroom and take that into account in a mulit-age setting and encompass all the subject matter you'd find in any traditional school."
